REVIEW: My Love from the Star

My Love from the Star is a South Korean television series that aired in 2013-2014, starring Kin Soo-hyun as do Min-joon, an alien who has been living on earth for 400 years and Jun Ji-hyun as Cheon Song-yi, a top actress.

The series combines elements of science fiction, romance and comedy, telling the story of Do Min-joon’s unexpected encounter with Cheon Song-yi and their subsequent love affair. Despite the challenges posed by their vastly different background and the limitations of Do Min-joon’s alien existence the two develop a deep connection.

The show’s unique premise, strong performance and visually stunning production made it a huge hit both domestically and internationally, contributing to the rise of Korean dramas.

Storylines:

Do Min-joon, as alien from a distant planet arrives on Earth in 1609 and falls in love with a young woman named hwa. He is forced to leave her behind, heartbroken. Centruries later, he returns to Earth and finds himself living next door to a famous actress named Cheon Song-yi, who bears a striking resemblance to Yi-hwa. Min-joon is initially reluctant to get involved with song-yi but he drawn to her despte his reservations. As he gets to know her, he realizes that she is a kind and compassionate person and he begans to fall in love with her.

However, their relationshiop is not without its challenges. Song-yi a reckless and impulsive woman and she often gets herself into trouble. Min-joon has to use his superpowers to save her from danger on a regular basis. He also has to deal with the jealousy of Song-yi’s ex boyfriens, Lee Hee-kyung, who is determined to break up the couple.

Despite the obstacles, Min-joon and Song-yi’s love grows stronger. They eventually confess their feelings for each other and share a passionate kiss, however their happiness is short-lived. Min-joon’s time on Earth is running out, and he knows that he will soon have to return to his home planet.

In the end Min-joon and Song-yi are forced to part ways. They say their goodbyes and promise to never forget each other. Min-joon returns to his planet, leaving behind a heartbroken Song-yi.
